Clinical Consultation and Specialized Reviews

Expert team reviews for complex situations, including psychiatric medication reviews.

Overview

BridgeWorks Interdisciplinary Consultation and Specialized Reviews connects individuals, families, and organizations with a team of clinical experts to support complex situations and informed decision-making.

When situations are complex, a single perspective is rarely enough. Our interdisciplinary consultation services bring together expertise in the following areas:

Developmental Psychiatry

Psychology

Behaviour Analysis

Nursing

Social Work

Working with individuals, families, caregivers and service providers, the team builds a shared understanding of what’s happening and agrees on practical next steps.

We offer two distinct consultation services

Developmental Psychiatry Resource (DPR)

An interdisciplinary psychiatric medication review service for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are prescribed complex or long-term psychotropic medication regimens.

Interdisciplinary Review Committee (IRC)

A clinical case review service that brings together specialists in developmental psychiatry, psychology, behaviour analysis, social work and nursing to review complex situations and provide coordinated, evidence-informed recommendations.

Developmental Psychiatry Resource

The Developmental Psychiatry Resource (DPR) reviews psychiatric medications for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who take complex or long-term medications.

What the DPR offers

Every review is completed by a developmental psychiatrist with over 20 years of experience and a nurse, working with the person’s Registered Behaviour Analyst when they have one. Together, they check that medications are still safe, effective, and right for the person’s current needs and goals. Reviews happen virtually and, when helpful, where the person lives.

A referral from a physician is required to access DPR services.

Who can benefit

DPR services may be appropriate for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who:

Referral and Consent

Following a physician referral and consent, the DPR team begins the review process.

Review and Observation

The DPR team reviews clinical records, meets with the family virtually, observes the person in their environment, and meets with the support team.

Recommendations and Follow-up

Written recommendations are shared with the family, support team, and most responsible physician. Ongoing shared care and follow-up are available and planned case by case.

Interdisciplinary Review Committee

The Interdisciplinary Review Committee (IRC) brings our full interdisciplinary team together to review complex situations and provide coordinated, written recommendations.

What the IRC offers

The person’s support team presents the situation, and the IRC develops written recommendations covering health, psychological, behavioural and social needs. The IRC supports planning and decisions; it does not provide ongoing treatment or case management.
